Every acting journey begins with research. You do the script analysis, dig into the desires and needs of the character in the story, and try to find out all you can about the world you will create on stage or film.
I began my research into the world of females in the military. Women are doing the same things men are doing in the military. It takes a different approach. And the journey is tougher. But. They are doing it. And I admire the hell out of these women. I look at them, and I think, ‘Wow, what a badass.’ I worry that I won’t be able to do this character justice. That is part of the acting journey for me anyway. Fear of failure, pushing through anyway, and telling the story.
Grayson has to have certain qualities. What I see in Grayson is strength, power (physical), intelligence, stillness, courage, patience, and a violent spirit. Some of these qualities I possess, and some are out of my league. So I am trying to incorporate those evasive qualities into my Grayson repertoire.
Tonight, we shoot a short that includes combat scenes. This will be the only opportunity I get to live in the combat world that Grayson faced; the show will take place after this time in her life, onboard the ship headed to Mars. (Doing some diabolical shit if I do say so myself.) I am grateful to live in this world for a bit. I think it will give me some insight into how I create her in the new world onboard the ship.
Sunday June 5 th will be the first day to become Grayson. Stay tuned for more….
