Directing 'The Corridor'

A week ago today, we shot a second teaser-episode to use as a proof of concept as we move into our crowdfunding campaign next month. It couldn’t have gone much better: the actors were having fun and doing great work, the crew was relaxed, but focused, and, as the director, I had a good time and feel great about the story we told. I’m particularly pleased about the day, because the lead up to the shoot was much more chaotic and stressful. Everyone on the production team is a busy, talented person, so we’re pulled in a lot of directions by other projects and “day-jobs”, but we’re passionate about this story and work well as a team. We got the work done, and the results look to be wonderful.

The shoot also offered us a chance to do the work that really drives us, which is to get on our feet and direct, act, choreograph shots, or see our words come to life. The hard work of prepping for a fundraising campaign and pre-production for a series is often fun and rewarding, but it was nice to get a taste of the actual storytelling.

The episode we shot occurs prior to the events of the series, and gives us a chance to gain a little insight into our two major characters. In the episode, we meet Elizabeth Grayson, played by Cheramie Hopper, and Marcus Cullen, played by Nick Farco. Grayson has just learned she’s been awarded the honor of being the first member of the crew to step onto the surface of Mars, but she takes little comfort in this fact, as she is driven by a need for much greater personal glory and accomplishment. At the same time, we see hints that Cullen is involved in something behind the scenes, and his relationship with Grayson may prove useful to serve his secret goals. Exciting stuff!

We plan to release the episode, which we titled “The Corridor” when we launch the crowdfunding campaign on August 15th.

Later this week we plan to shoot our pitch video for Indiegogo, and the work of prepping for the campaign continues.
